History of Melrose

The Melrose Drive church of Christ was started in 1970 by six families who previously worshipped at the Josey Lane congregation in Carrollton, Texas. These families had the blessing of the Josey Lane elders to leave and start a new conservative work in Richardson, Texas. After worshipping in the Texas Utilities community Center in Richardson for a few months, those families individually pledged their savings as collateral and obtained a 14-year loan to buy land with an old house on it. The members fixed up the old house enough to use it for worship services while the present building was being built, which was occupied in 1971. Membership and contributions increased enough to payoff the loan in 7 years.

Extensive renovation and updating of the building began in 2008 and is planned to be completed in 2010. A building fund is being accumulated for an affordable, newer building in the future, hopefully in the same general area as the present building.
