DEVELOPING LEADERSHIP

1 Corinthians 16:13, 14

Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.

Let all that you do be done in love.

(New American Standard Version)

Leaders Seek counsel

Proverbs 15:22 Without counsel, plans go awry,

But in the multitude of counselors they are established.

Proverbs 20:18 Plans are established by counsel; By wise counsel wage war.

Proverbs 24:6 For by wise counsel you will wage your own war,

And in a multitude of counselors there is safety.

Proverbs 11:14 Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors there is safety.

The Affect

Proverbs 27:17 As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.

Once we have the knowledge we have the responsibility to lead others

Romans 15:14 Now I myself am confident concerning you, my brethren, that you also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another.

A leader must possess these abilities
  1. Develop the knowledge and wisdom to identify present and future needs
  2. Assess the resources at hand and those that can be accumulated and or developed as time passes.
  3. With counseling develop plan on how best to apply these resources to needs as they arise.
  4. APPLY THE PLAN WITH ALL DISCIPLINE AND DILIGENCE!
  5. Must be able to help others do the same.

THE CHARACTER OF A BISHOP

THE CHARACTER OF A LEADER

1 Timothy 3:1-7

1 This is a faithful saying: If a man desires the position of a bishop, he desires a good work. 2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach; 3 not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous; 4 one who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence 5 (for if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the church of God?); 6           not a novice, lest being puffed up with pride he fall into the same condemnation as the devil. 7 Moreover he must have a good testimony among those who are outside, lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

THE PRAYER OF A LEADER

1 Chronicles 4:9-10

9 Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, "Because I bore him in pain." 10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, "Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!" So God granted him what he requested.
