Do You Believe That The Church And The Kingdom Are The Same?

Do you believe the church and the kingdom are the same or different institutions?

The church is referred to by various terms, including the body (Ephesians 1:22, 23), the family or house (1 Timothy 3:15), the temple (1 Corinthians 3:16), etc.

Likewise, "kingdom" also refers to the church.  Matthew 16:18, 19 - Jesus promised to build His "church" and give Peter the keys of the "kingdom." This makes sense only if both terms refer to the same thing.

The kingdom was preached to be at hand by John, Jesus, and Jesus’ disciples (Matthew 3:2; 10:7). It was promised to come in the lifetime of some of the Apostles (Mark 9:1). It was in existence in the days of the Apostles (Revelation 1:9; Colossians 1:13). This kingdom consists of those over whom Christ reigns (1 Corinthians 15:23-25). This is the church (Matthew 16:18-19).

However, 2 Peter 1:10-11 & 2 Timothy 4:18 refer to an “everlasting kingdom” and “heavenly kingdom”. These two (Peter and Paul), already in the kingdom (the church), speak of receiving this other “kingdom”.

Additionally, “the kingdom” includes a broader scope (i.e. all authority has been given to Christ, thus, all are accountable, Matthew 28:18).  He will judge all men (John 12:48).
